Tha Art of Reading Blogs

So being somewhat new to the blog world i wanted to ask those of you who would how do you keep up? I mean most of you have 50 to 100 blogs you follow. So i ask do you spend hours everyday reading and commenting or do you glance over pick a few then comment on them? i only have a handful of blogs right now that i follow and i find it takes me at least an hour to read and comment on each one every morning. Then by evening i have another whole set to read. Can you please help a girl out and give me some trade secrets on how this is done. thank you from someone getting overwhelmed.

I'm with you on this one, Becca! I only have 27 followers, and I read every new post that comes up from them. Then I write a comment. Then, the next day, I'll zip over them all again to read the other comments and see what the Blogger has had to say about their comments!! Phew!! I love all my followers, but I don't know how people cope when they've got loads more followers. AND, some people even write more than one Blog!! This has tended to take over my life a bit, I must admit.

I now follow a little over 100 blogs. It is hard to keep up. I usually go to the dashboard and just start at the top. It takes me hours to get through them all. Even if some haven't posted that day.

I have a lot of free time at work, so I enjoy it. But some days, I do have to skip through some because they actually make me work.

A good question. Well those who comment on my blog are pretty much guaranteed a response from me, so I do them first. As for the bloggers I follow, I usually read and respond to posts that interest me when times are busy.

I don't follow but maybe 20 blogs and of those only 15 are active every day or so. No way I can read 50-100 blogs aday. I'd never get anything done.. All I can say is weed through your blogs and delete any you do not read or like.

Happy Reading!!!!!

Apparently iGoogle has something handy for keeping up with multiple blogs.

Otherwise, you can either stop following some of them (I elimiated some who hadn't posted in months) or only check with people who return the favor and visit your blog too.

I'll skip over a post if it doesn't catch my eye in the title and first few sentences on my dash. At least once a week, I visit the homepages of the 20 or so blogs I follow and read the three latest posts.

I avoid commenting if I don't have anything productive to say and I unfollow if an unusually long period of time has passed since the last update (this varies from blogger to blogger).

I will definitely admit that it's getting harder to keep up with them all but 1) I'm home all day so I keep up with it by checking for new postings and 2) as long as I stay on top of them I can manage but I'm way off base having guests here. You just kind of have to find what works best for you!

Hi Becca ~ I follow a LOT of blogs! Probably too many, to be honest. But, a lot of them are decorating blogs, where I just look at the pictures, and don't commment. There are only a few that I actually read and comment on. Those are the people that I cherish and love, and those that I feel that I have become "friends" with. ~ YOU are included in that list! :)

Hey Becca, I read the ones I really like and connect with, and as Drake mentioned if someone comments on my blog then before the evening is over I pop over to theirs to see what is going on :)

I have my list of favorites set up on my blogroll to move to the top with the most recently updated selection that way when I open my page I can see at a glance who has new posts, as far as keeping up with 50 or more I don't see how it can be done.

You always find interesting blogs or people on other friends pages, I have read a few of your comments on Lynnes page and popped over to give you a read, my only suggestion would be to follow those you like and don't worry about the rest because with over fifty followers on mine there are only about 6 or eight that follow regularly, so I return the favor to them first.

Sure enjoyed my visit here.

hi becca! i am also new to the blogging word - and by that i mean having my own blog, but i have been following for several months now.

i would say i probably right now follow about 50 or so blogs. it is time consuming, but i really find a lot of enjoyment in it. i honestly try and read every post and comment as often as possible.

my job provides a lot of free time so it is easier for me to stay "caught up"

hope everyone was able to help you a little bit :)

Hey Becca, sorry I am late with this one, but you got me thinking. I guess I try to read the most familiar ones first as I now follow over 70 I think. Those would be the ones I feel connected through as they comment on mine. Bit like when you scan your emails and leave the newsletters and go straight to the ones from your mates. Giving back the love to those I know take the time for me.
I will confess that if the blog doesnt catch me quickly I tend to move on. I try to leave comments as much as I can as long as I have something I think I can contribute to the occasion.
I read this a couple of days ago but really wanted to put my two cents in so this morning while I had time I came back to it.
I think in the end you will find a preferred method of reading your blog list.

I read many posts, but comment once every 2-3 posts to let the authors know I'm reading their blog

Hi Becca. Some great tips there, and some words of warning between the lines. Although I appreciate that there are those (such as you) that follow my blog I rarely comment on others, and don't feel the need to respond necessarily. How rude of me? Do you respond to the response? What a cycle that creates! But I will walk away noting that I should perhaps interact more than I do. All things, in moderation. And thanks for your blog.

I'm pretty picky about who gets onto my blogroll. I use the live-update blogroll now, which lets me see who's posted recently.

I don't have a whole lot of time these days to surf other blogs. I wish I had more, and it bugs me, because so many kind people drop into my place and I'd love to reciprocate in every case. But there are only so many hours in the day, so I've got to be selective.

I often pop through the comments on my site, too, and respond directly from there. Google Reader is also a great tool. I use it for everyday reading - I follow a lot of RSS feeds for work...it's a lot quicker in Google Reader than it is simply surfing the web - and Google thoughtfully makes it easy to follow blogs, too.

I follow a lot of blogs. True it takes a lot of time. However, if a blog DOESN'T used word verification and DOES use a pop up for comments, it makes it so much faster and easier to comment. I don't comment on every single post I read. There are exceptions though! There are a couple of folks who commented on this post, that I try to read and comment on every single post they do...that's cause I like their blogs and I like them as folks...
