5. Share a favorite childhood holiday memory
one of my favorite memories was my first Christmas in FL we had just moved into a rented house and my parents didn't have money to buy a tree so the people who lived there before left us their Christmas tree already decorated and all of our present came from a dollar store and were wrapped in brown paper bags. It was the best Christmas i remember and i still have my stuff puppy that my dad picked out for me. he is little tattered and torn but i keep him close as a reminded that Christmas doesn't have to be fancy and loaded with expensive gifts to be special.

6. Have you ever actually tried fruitcake?? Yes

My grandmother made the best fruitcake in the world and each one was enormous [they were round with a whole in the middle] and we would get one every Christmas and eat it for about a month. Gosh. I can still taste it. She passed away 16 years ago and I still can't find her recipe. Sigh.

Nice memories. I especially enjoyed your favorite Christmas.

Wonderful memories!

I like how you didn't elaborate on the fruitcake!!

Christmas and Thanksgiving together are my favorite because of their true beauty and the celebration of life & family.

What a great Christmas story! Is that first picture of your Christmas tree?! If so, NICE!

Have you ever tried Olive Garden's pumpkin cheesecake? If you like cheesecake even a tiny bit, it's the best in the world, like pumpkin pie, but with a little kick. :)

The simpler Christmases are the ones that stick in my mind from growing up.

Super stuff, I adore fruit cake. What's that I hear you cry - "But Jason, you love every kind of cake"? You are not wrong my dear!

Happy hump day.

I think my favorite holiday food is pumpkin pie too.
That story about your best Christmas memory from your childhood was so sweet.

Joanne said...

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because there is no added pressure of gift buying or wrapping. it's just food and family!
Love it!!! You are so Good Becca finishing your gift shopping early. I am going to try to do that this year. Thanks for the reminder!
Blessing, Joanne

What a great set of answers as usual. I love that you use pumpkin pie as your birthday cake! haha. We also had the same tradition of opening one gift on Christmas eve. But just me since I was the youngest and most excited. I continued it with my son. Occasionally, my husband would be so excited at what he bought me he couldn't wait till morning for me to open it! Hugs!

I think we have an unique tradition in my family. Nobody buys gifts to anybody. Everyone buys himself a gift, wraps it up an put it under the tree.

On Christmas, it's up to all the others to guess what everyone has bought for themselves.

We must try to get ourselves something nobody would have tought bying us, something we don'T necessarily "need", that we wouldn't have normally waste money on but we always wanted to have.

It's very funny and I don't have the pressure to find the perfect gift for eveyone. Of course, we're all grown up at home, no more kids... I guess we would make an exception for them!

I agree with you, the best Christmas are the simplest ones.

And I want the recipe to that pumpkin cheesecake! ;)
Hugs

We always had a real living Christmas Tree when I was young. My mother used to tear up cotton-wool and throw it on the tree to look like snow! She died in 1983 aged 90. My sister used to make a boiled fruit cake that was great. She died three years ago. I'm the last member of the family still living. But have lovely memories.

That's a beautiful Christmas memory.

I would love to shop early, but then people won't be able to return if it they don't like it/can't use it. How do you get around that?

becca said...

@Timothy Bowen YUMMY tight

Mynx said...

OK I am confused. Is fruit cake something foreign on your side of the world? Love all types of fruit cakes and puddings too.

Shannon Lawrence said...

The question is, did you like the fruitcake?

What a wonderful story about your first Christmas in Florida!

That's so sweet that your mother allowed you to open one gift on Christmas Eve. As children, we had to suffer through 24 hours of agony before we were FINALLY permitted to open our stash.

And you're soooooo good to start your Christmas shopping in September! Even November is early... considering that I have a reputation of starting a week or two before Christmas... and am often still shopping and wrapping gifts on Christmas Eve!
